In noue samewerking met Betsie Nel en LAPA-uitgewers, het ons ‘n pragtige, genotvolle, leersame, opwindende dag in die geselskap van die skrywer Fanie Viljoen, gehad. ANPS initiated the day and the schools of Burgersdorp and Zastron also benefited from Mr Viljoen’s visit.  We really appreciate it when award-winning authors of children’s book visit us.  LAPA-publishers hosted a book exhibition for two days at the school where many books were sold.  Some learners had the opportunity to perform during the evening’s programme.

Om ‘n skrywer in lewende lywe te ontmoet en uit sy eie mond die storie te hoor, waaroor geskryf is, bring onweerstaanbare opwinding!  Mr Viljoen is an experienced story-teller and everyone was mesmerized by his exciting stories.  There are no boundaries when it comes to children’s imagination.  Being a constant dreamer, this is a world he feels comfortable exploring.

He took an interest in writing during his early years at school.   He became a full-time writer and artist in 2006.  Today Fanie is a well-known South African children’s author, and the winner of multiple literary awards.  He has written more than 80 fiction, 40 non-fiction, 7 radio plays, numerous short stories and prose in English and Afrikaans. Die droom van ‘n film lê tans en wink… Van al sy toekennings, sê hy, is die ATKV kinderboekwenner die mees kosbare een, want die lesertjies self het die wenner bepaal! Daarom is dit baie spesiaal dat hy na ons Laerskool toe gekom het om met sy spesiale lesers te kom gesels! “Kattestrofiese kattekwaad”, “Slyk” en “Pieksel” was sommer gou-gou uitverkoop!

All the learners were empowered by Mr Viljoen’s visit.  They understand the importance of reading.  Everyone was so excited to explore and enjoy all the books on display. I would like to thank Mrs Bester, Fanie Viljoen, Betsie Nel, Lapa publishers, Mrs Vorster and the learners for all the planning that went into this day, the exhibition and the concert.  It was an unforgettable day and a prestigious evening.  This was just the first of many more culture days.  Watch this space!
