AWSUM had a chat with Kyle van Wyk, first team rugby captain of Selborne College. We asked him about their season and what his expectations are for the game against Grey High School.
What is the highlight of your team’s rugby season this year?
The highlight of the season will definitely be realising that what we have as a team is special and knowing the brotherhood we have.
How do you motivate your team?
The team is not difficult to motivate as it comes from within. We all support one another, so we all motivate each other.
Who is your vice-captain and how does he support you?
Aaron van Dyk is the vice-captain, and he supports me in many ways and is always there when I need him.
Are you happy with your team’s line-up for Saturday’s derby? Do you have any injuries in your team?
I am very happy with our team and I know we will give it our best.
What do you as a team want to achieve this year? What will make you proud?
The first team wants to play without regrets and we want to play for something bigger than ourselves, which for us is the UBUKO initiative and Tries for Lives.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to carry on doing what I love, which is playing rugby and furthering my studies.
