Grantleigh School’s Astro turf was the stage for an exciting afternoon of Interhouse 7-a-side hockey on Thursday, as students and staff came together in a high-energy display of sportsmanship and house pride. In a format designed to promote inclusivity and collaboration, each house team was made up of 3 boys, 3 girls, and one staff member. The result? Fast-paced, thrilling matches and roaring sidelines from start to finish. The day kicked off with Bishops narrowly defeating Orioles 2–1, courtesy of a strong second-half push. A short break later, Orioles faced Trogons, who took control of the match early. Led by an exceptional performance from Simphiwe Mthethwa, who scored five goals, Trogons sealed a 9–3 victory. The final matchup between Bishops and Trogons lived up to the hype. Trogons opened the scoring, once again through Simphiwe, but Bishops responded late to tie it 1–1. With the match undecided, it went to 8-second penalties, and in an exciting twist, the staff representatives stepped into goal. Dom Hassard and Heinrich Hattingh scored for their sides early on, but after two full rounds of shootouts, the teams remained tied—securing a dramatic and well-deserved draw. Next week, the Interhouse spotlight shifts to touch rugby and football, as the school community gears up for even more action and celebration of school spirit.
