In a clash marking 125 years of rugby tradition, St Andrew’s College faced off against local rivals Graeme College in an eagerly anticipated showdown. The day was charged with excitement as both teams battled it out on Lower Field, with the College 1st XV paying homage to history by donning the same strip worn in 1899.

Graeme College dominated the junior fixtures, displaying their intensity and skill, while St Andrew’s College, though rusty after the holidays, put up a commendable fight. However, it was the senior teams where College showed their mettle, securing impressive wins for the 5th, 4th, and 3rd Teams. The 2nd Team’s comeback from a 20- point deficit to draw 29-29 added to the day’s excitement. The 1st XV match was a nail-biter from start to finish. St Andrew’s College took the lead early through Nic Hall’s try but Graeme fought back, leveling the score at halftime. The second half saw Graeme’s strategic kicking game put College under pressure, but St Andrew’s confidence grew, resulting in tries from Murray Wilson and Karabo van Heerdan. Despite Graeme’s late surge, College held on for a tense 17-15 victory.

In a fitting tribute to both schools’ rugby heritage, Saturday’s match was a testament to skill, determination, and mutual respect. Both teams can be proud of their performance, making the day a memorable celebration for the entire community.
