Last week, College participated in the Grey High School Festival alongside engaging in local fixtures against PJ Olivier and Pearson. This report summarizes the outcomes of these events, highlighting both successes and areas for improvement. The Grey Festival showcased a mixed bag of results for College. While our teams demonstrated competitiveness against evenly matched opponents, they encountered difficulties when facing physically larger teams. This exposed the need for enhancing our physical conditioning and refining our game to better align with our team’s strengths. The 3rd team delivered an impressive win over PJ Olivier 1st XV, in a wonderful game on Lower on Saturday. Additionally, the U14A and U16A teams secured commendable victories against St John’s. Looking ahead, the entire club eagerly anticipates the upcoming fixture against Cambridge. This presents an opportunity for teams to regroup and build on the lessons learnt.

On Thursday the 1st XV played Parkton, despite a scrappy affair, the College team emerged triumphant with a score of 27-15, demonstrating resilience and adaptability. On Saturday the match against Jeppe posed significant challenges, particularly in the first half where Jeppe’s physicality and aggression tested our team’s resolve. Although the second half showcased improved direction and determination from College, Jeppe’s formidable defence held strong.  Despite our best efforts, late tries from Jeppe skewed the final score to 5-33, possibly understating the College team’s commitment and effort. Special thanks are extended to all staff members who supported the teams during the Grey High School Festival and contributed to the success of the local fixtures against Pearson and PJ Olivier.
