Kyron a learner from Durbanville Primary School  as the Western Cape Champion was invited to take part in the South African National Championships in Durban last weekend and took Gold for Kumite (Fighting) and Silver for Kata (Demonstration of form). This is the highest level of Tournament in South Africa held by KSA (Karate South Africa). Karate South African follows the WKF Rules (World Karate Federation) and is SASCOC affiliated.

Thursday the 5th of April all weigh-ins were done.  Friday the 6th of April Kyron took part in kumite and became the South African Champion. The afternoon he took part in the 2nd largest division of the day in Kata and missed the gold spot by 1 flag. On Sunday the 8 of April all athletes were invited to attend a national squad training with the heads of the South African Karate team. This was compulsory for athletes that medaled in the National championships as the 2024 Protea team selection would be announced. Kyron was selected to represent the Protea Team in Namibia June this year for the Region South African Championships.

The build up to this has been massive, intese training, at the sports science centre, in his dojo, many many hours alone at his home dojo as well as incredible fitness routines. Thank you to all involved hetting Kyron this far, well done to all athletes and especially the other athletes from around the Western Cape that were selected. Special thanks to Raynier from Mushin Kai Karate in Kraaifontein as well as all coaches from Western Cape Karate Association. Kyron will be heading off to Bloemfontein to compete in the Karate South African League 2 event. We wish him luck.
