Listen to what coach Derek Heiberg from Glenwood High School, who are participating in the North South rugby tournament this weekend has to say.
What can we expect from your team?Glenwood pride ourselves on playing with passion and commitment in every game we play. WE are very proud to play in the green jersey and will always try and produce a performance worthy of the legacy.
What are our strengths? Even though we are not as big as other teams, we pride ourselves on how fit and skilled we are so we aim to play a high tempo game and use our counter attack opportunities whenever they present themselves.
Most difficult aspect? I would say clearly with the summer codes it is difficult as you get limited time to prepare as they take preference in the first term at our school. With this and rugby practices boys are busy five days a week so it’s important to manage them to keep physically and mentally fresh.
Why is it so competitive? We are so blessed in South African in terms of natural talent. This is now becoming evident in our school as they are placing a huge emphasis on their rugby programme and investing a huge amount of resources into it. This is how schools are now marketing themselves and as a result of this the games are becoming fiercely contested.
