Dundee High School learners shine on the Speech & Drama Stage

Dundee High School once again proved that excellence extends far beyond the classroom as learners delivered an outstanding performance at this year’s Speech & Drama Festival, earning top symbols, special recognition and provincial opportunities.
The event showcased remarkable talent across all grades, with learners impressing adjudicators through poetry, monologues and dramatic performances filled with confidence, creativity and passion.
Stealing the spotlight was Grade 12 learner Nkazimulo Khumalo, who achieved an extraordinary and almost unheard-of A++ symbol for poetry. According to both Dundee High School representatives and the Speech & Drama Association adjudicator, his performance was regarded as one of the finest ever witnessed at the competition.
Another standout performer was Ayabonga Zulu, who was named Best Performing Learner of the Year after achieving an exceptional 2A and 4A+ symbols, highlighting consistent excellence across multiple performances.
Dundee High also celebrated the achievements of Taaqiah Johannessen and Samkelisiwe Mgabhi, who have both been invited to participate in the prestigious Bruce Piper Provincial Speech & Drama Monologue Competition – a significant honour recognising their outstanding dramatic ability.

Learners from Grades 8 to 12 collected numerous A and A+ symbols, reflecting the depth of talent within the school. Grade 9 learner Nazira Amod earned an impressive 5A+ symbols, while Grade 11 learner Samkelisiwe Mgabhi achieved 3A and 3A+ symbols. Grade 10 learner Iman Joosub also excelled with 4A and 2A+ symbols.
School staff praised the dedication and courage shown by all participants, describing the festival as a celebration of expression, confidence and personal growth.
“The learners represented Dundee High School with pride and distinction. Their performances reflected not only talent, but also discipline, preparation and passion,” a school representative said.
The school’s continued success in Speech & Drama highlights Dundee High’s commitment to developing learners holistically by encouraging excellence in academics, culture and the arts.
With provincial recognition now beckoning for several learners, Dundee High School’s rising stars continue to make their voices heard both on and off the stage.
