The School year is ending, but Uplands College has some exciting events coming up next year. One of these events is The International Student Leadership Symposium being held in March 2023, which we will be hosting. A short introduction to The International Student Leadership Symposium. Nine years ago, Uplands College was invited to represent Africa and join a group of schools that attended a student leadership symposium annually.  The attending schools hail from North America, Europe and the Far East. Uplands School and Uplands delegates have always made an excellent impression on the founding members and, as a result, we have been re-awarded the hosting of this conference in March 2023.

The focus of the conference is leadership.  This topic is usually presented within a theme. The Chinese saying “crossing the river by feeling the stones” is originally a folk saying, meaning step steadily seeking stability. It refers to a steady attitude of exploration in the face of new things. Under this banner, we will deliver our message to the delegates.  The delegates are to come up with a plan of action to take home and share with their peers, schools and communities. This way the impact of what they will learn at this symposium can be paid forward and shared with the world.  Attending schools in 2023 are:

  • Prem Tinsulanonda International School, Chiang Mai.
  • Westlake Academy, Texas USA
  • International School of Brussels, Belgium
  • Gauß-Gymnasium – Worms, Germany (Stiftung Gauß-Gymnasium Worms)
  • Edmonton Islamic Academy, Edmonton, Canada

“A small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world… it is the only thing that ever has,”—Margaret Mead
