Provincial chess honour for Curro Somerset West Chess Player. Grade 10 learner, Izaiah Solomon, has been selected to represent the Western Cape Boys Under-18 team at the prestigious Mzansi Inter-Provincial Youth Chess Championship (MIYCC), taking place in Gqeberha this December.

Izaiah’s journey began in primary school, where his natural talent quickly caught the attention of teachers and coaches. Over the years, he has risen through the ranks with standout performances at school, district, and regional levels.

His 2025 season highlights include:

  • 3rd place – District East U17 Boys Trials
  • 7th place – Cape Metro (WP) Trials
  • Top 15 – Western Cape U17 Boys Trials

These achievements earned him a spot on the Western Cape Under-18 team, placing him among the province’s top youth chess players.

The MIYCC, held from 15–20 December 2025, will feature both team and individual events, offering Izaiah the chance to compete against South Africa’s best.

Curro Somerset West celebrates this milestone and commends Izaiah for his dedication, discipline, and passion. His journey is a powerful example of what can be achieved through perseverance and focus — both on and off the board.
