Launched during the 2008/09 financial year, the Essay Writing Competition has been designed to offer students studying Economics, Mathematics, and Accounting the chance to secure bursaries in commerce-related fields through participation in an essay writing contest. Students studying Economics are encouraged to craft essays centered on key topics relevant to contemporary economic issues in South Africa. The selected topics aim to stimulate critical thinking among our students, addressing the ongoing challenges faced by our country that government officials strive to tackle on a daily basis.
As one of the finalists, Huguenot High School learner Johannes Truter presented a 15- minute PowerPoint presentation on Friday 22 May at the WC Provincial Treasury for a board of Economists. Following this presentation, he was selected as one of the bursary winners of 2026! Thanks to Ms Janine Davis for all her support and guidance.
