Edenvale High School has had a bumper year with their English Olympiad writers! This is a nationwide competition with fabulous prizes, including scholarships at Rhodes University. The three-hour exam is written at school in the first week of March. This year, the Grahamstown-body allowed juniors from Grade 9 to participate, so EHS registered 46 English Olympiad writers – previously it was restricted to Grade 10, 11 and 12.
The result was phenomenal: Jonathan Gatter (grade 11) placed 15th, Abigail Smethurst (grade 11) placed 32nd and Rachel Adlard (grade 12) placed 41st in the country. Certificates arrive in October, either for merit, bronze, diamond or gold.
