On 11 and 13 April, Gene Louw Primary School presented their first Interschool Spelling Bee competition. Weeks of planning and organising went into this prestigious event and the Grade 6 and 7 top spellers from Kenridge Primary, Curro Durbanville, Aristea Primary, Monte Vista Primary and Excelsior Primary were invited to compete against the best spellers of Gene Louw Primary.

The contestants were well-prepared and excellent ambassadors for their respective schools and impressed both the audience and the panel of adjudicators with their brilliant spelling skills. Both evenings ended in nail-biting rounds of unseen words before three winners per grade were eventually identified.

The winners of the Grade 6 category were:

1. Liam van Vuuren – Gene Louw Primary (middle of picture)
2. Tyler Morilly – Gene Louw Primary (right)
3. Kyle Samuels – Aristea Primary (left)

The winners of the Grade 7 category were:

1. Leila Garcia – Gene Louw Primary (middle)
2. Paul Kotze – Kenridge Primary (right)
3. Nqcali Dantile – Curro Durbanville (left)
