The Wykeham Collegiate celebrated the 30th edition of its annual Market Day on 1 May 2026. What began as a cold and wet morning soon turned into a bright and cheerful day, buzzing with excited crowds of shoppers creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The market was established as a platform for Grade 9 Business Studies pupils to learn about entrepreneurship through practical experience. As part of the eight-week Grade 9 Business Studies programme, pupils develop original business ideas, conduct market research, compile financial plans, and create marketing strategies before pitching their concepts to the school’s Chamber of Commerce in a Dragon’s Den-style presentation. Once approved, the girls took full responsibility for funding, marketing, and running their businesses on Market Day, where they traded alongside established external vendors. Their businesses were formally assessed, with awards presented for Business of the Year, Most Creative Business, and Highest Profit Made.
The Grade 9 Business Studies entrepreneurship programme not only equips learners with practical business skills but also fosters resilience, independence, problem‑solving and financial literacy, skills that will serve them well far beyond the classroom.
In addition to the Grade 9 businesses, visitors enjoyed the Grade 11 water slides, Grade 10 House of Horrors, Grade 7 jumping castles, the Junior School Tea Garden, PA breakfast stall, Old Girls’ Association stand, and so much more. From bunny petting and educational toys to home décor, clothing, jewellery, plants, delicious food, and coffee, there was something for everyone. Be sure to diarise 1 May 2027, the TWC Market Day is always an event not to be missed!
