Pearson travelled down the N2 to a very wet and cold Humansdorp to play Nico Malan on their home ground. The conditions were challenging and tested the Pearson boys from the start. Nico Malan proved to be strong opposition and were the victors in most of the matches on the day. The 1^st XV match proved to be a nail-biting affair during which both teams’ defence and discipline were tested. Nico Malan scored a try from a set penalty play and converted it.

Pearson missed some opportunities from penalties and struggled to get momentum. Pearson’s no. 9 (Casper Fouché) scored try from a lineout but missed the conversion. The score was 7 – 5 to Nico Malan right up to half time when Nico Malan gave away a penalty. Pearson’s no. 10 (Divan Fourie) managed to kick it over and the score was 8 – 7 to Pearson. The second half was a tough defensive battle for both sides. Pearson managed to kick one more penalty in the half to take the score to 11 – 7 in favour of Pearson.
