Pearson’ Boys tennis team continues unbeaten start to the year at prestigious festival in Cradock

The Pearson boys 1st tennis team have had a dream start to the 2022 season.

The team won the 20th edition of the prestigious Tjaart Voster tennis festival in Cradock over this past weekend! 12 boys teams participated in the event which started on Thursday and culminated in a dramatic final between Pearson and Paarl Boys High on Saturday evening which finished after 19:00 under lights at the Cradock tennis club. The teams were all even 9-9 after singles and so it came down to the doubles matches to decide the victor. Pearson won the doubles match at number 1 couple 8-1 to take a 11-9 lead. Paarl Boys struck back with a close 8-5 victory at number 3 couple to leave the match in the balance at 11-11 with only the number 2 couples left on the court to decide the final. In a match of the highest quality under pressure the Pearson combination of Khush Govindjee and Zack Griesel came out deserved winners 8-5 to hand Pearson the fixture and the trophy 13-11 overall. Brandon Rieseberg and Keaton Holm went unbeaten in singles and doubles.

Brandon also received the award for Best No.1 boys’ singles player of the tournament.

The Pearson 1st team have started the year with 12 straight victories over the following schools in various tournaments as well as the local high school league:

  • Vs St Andrews 6-0
  • Vs Marlow 5-1
  • Vs Kingswood 6-0
  • Vs Nico Malan 4-0
  • Vs Framesby 3-1
  • Vs Merrifield 19-8
  • Vs Voortrekker 24-3
  • Vs Marlow B 27-1
  • Vs Vortrekker 13-5
  • Vs Merrifield 14-4
  • Vs Paarl Boys High 13-11
