Laerskool Bosveld Primary Cross Country kicks off with a flying start. On 13 April 2024, the cross country athletes of Laerskool Bosveld Primary took part in the first Limpopo Athletics (LIMA) Cross Country League of the year, and did so with great pride. With this event falling on the same weekend as other sporting events, many athletes had to sit this one out – leaving only 25 of the 48 athletes taking part. However, the results yielded by those who attended the event were most satisfactory. The youngest athlete registered for 2024 is an u/6 athlete. The cross country team also includes two staff members as participants, Mr Richard Cockerill and Mr William Shadung.

The athletes surpassed all expectations, some achieving their goals earlier than they had planned. In the youngest age group which features girls and boys of 6, 7, and 8 years of age, the team received a bronze medal with Fariel Ramela (Grade 1) finishing in third place a mere 6 seconds after the winner with a finishing time of 4:07 in this 1km event. Furthermore, these “Bosveld babies” took our breath away with their staggering times and excellent finishing places, achieving a 6th and 9th place (Cara Christie and Heilie Labuschagne). Among the older athletes, the team achieved a 5th (Pabalo Shonoane), 7th (Mpho Dibetso), and 9th place (Blessed Chokoe) in their respective age categories. All the athletes that took part gave their absolute best. The main purpose of this league is to give a clear indication of the work and effort required as we work towards the Limpopo Championships on 17 August 2024. For now, the focus is on League 2 which takes place on 11 May 2024 in Polokwane.
