Graeme College Senior Athletics results

Last week Friday and Saturday (11th and 12 February), Graeme College athletes competed in the Makhanda CMC High Schools. Athletics Meeting which included schools from Makhanda, Port Alfred and Alexandria. The dominant performances of sixteen of our athletes warranted their selection into a Makhanda CMC team, that would participate in the Sarah Baartman District High Schools Athletics Meeting, held at the Westbourne Oval in Gqeberha on Friday 17 February.
The Sarah Baartman District schools’ competition is highly competitive due to its enormity, as it includes schools as far as Humansdorp, Graaff-Reinet, Cradock and so forth. It is pleasing to report that our athletes stood their ground and gave a good account of themselves. They were awarded a
sum total of 13 medals- 3 gold, 6 sliver and 4 bronze! Some impressive performances at the Sarah Baartman District are as follows: Esinako Jadi received two gold medals for U15 1500m and 3000m finals, with times of 04:03:09s and 10:15:35s respectively.
Ayamila Bill received a silver Medal for 2nd place in the U15 Shotput as well as a bronze medal for 3rd place in the U15 High Jump. Matthew Koopman received a silver medal for 2nd place in the U15 Long Jump Rueben Dollery received a silver medal for 2nd place in the U15 Javelin
Sango Mayekiso received a silver medal for 2nd place in the U17 Discus Olona Ngcobondwana received a bronze medal for 3rd place in the U17 High Jump Licebo Ngwentle received a bronze medal for 3rd place in the U17 800m finals Likhona Mhono received a silver medal for 2nd place in the U17 100m finals as well as a bronze medal for 3rd place in the U17 200m finals with times of 11.07s and 23.15s respectively.
Mihlali Xalabile received a gold medal for 1st place in the U19 Triple Jump as well as a silver medal for 2nd place in the U19 Long Jump with the distances of 13.19 metres and 6.29 metres respectively. We congratulate all our athletes for showing guts, determination and fortitude against very tough opponents. We also look forward to hearing if any of these fine young men have been selected to compete at Provincial Championships which will take place on the weekend of 3 – 5 March.
