In a thrilling display of resilience and determination, Bella Grobler, a talented young cyclist from Curro Serengeti, showcased her incredible skills at the Cycle Lab Schools Series Nationals held on the 21st and 22nd of September. The competition was fierce, but Bella’s unwavering spirit and dedication stood out among her peers.

The race began dramatically for Bella. Just meters from the start line, she faced an unexpected setback as her bike’s chain snapped. Despite this challenging situation, Bella ran to the tech zone for repairs, returning to the race over two minutes behind the pack. Undeterred, she focused on the task ahead, showcasing her tenacity by overtaking an impressive 28 competitors to finish in 16th place. Her remarkable ability to stay composed under pressure earned her high praise from supporters and fellow athletes alike.

On the following day, Bella returned to the challenge, competing for the prestigious title of South African champion. The intense start saw her battling hard amongst strong athletes, including participants from Namibia. By the end of the first lap, Bella had surged ahead, moving from 9th to 4th place as she skilfully navigated the course’s climbs. The final lap saw her push beyond her limits, culminating in a thrilling finish where she crossed the line just shy of first place, securing an impressive second overall.

Bella’s performance reflects her unwavering faith, a principle she firmly holds dear, particularly resonating with her favourite scripture, Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Her belief in perseverance and hard work played a significant role in her impressive results at the national level.

Adding to the celebration, Gauteng was awarded the title of best province in the competition, a testament to the growth and talent emerging from this region, traditionally dominated by KZN and Western Cape in cycling.

Curro Serengeti takes immense pride in Bella’s achievements and looks forward to her continued growth in the sport as she moves into the Youth Ladies category next season. Her journey serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of resilience, faith, and hard work in the face of challenges.
