Curro Launches Aquatics Club for Cape Town swimmers. Curro Durbanville and Curro Century City are thrilled to announce the launch of Curro Aquatics, a premier swimming club aimed at providing exceptional training and competitive opportunities for learners across the wider Cape Town Aquatics District. The official launch event took place on Saturday, 27 May 2023 at Curro Century City. Curro Aquatics will enhance the current offering at Curro Durbanville, providing swimmers access to a ten-lane covered and heated pool. Since April 2014, this facility has been open not only to Curro learners but also to swimmers in the surrounding area who can enjoy learn-to-swim, competitive and master level classes.
In addition to this, the Curro Aquatics’ branch at Century City will provide year-round learn-to-swim, stroke development, and competitive training in a 25metre heated indoor pool. The branch will also offer artistic/synchronized swimming led by Head Coach and Olympian, Laura Strugnell. By joining forces, the two hubs will boost the club’s membership and strengthen its competitive edge in inter-club competitions. This collaboration will also enable the club to cater to swimmers from all ages and from all strengths and districts, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for the entire region.
“We are excited to make our highly successful competitive programme even more accessible to learners residing in Century City, Milnerton, and the surrounding suburbs,” says Christiaan Maree, Executive Head at Curro Century City. “Our aim is to make Curro Aquatics the club of choice, providing expert technique and guidance to help learners become confident and proficient in all four competitive strokes.”

Whilst all Curro learners can enjoy the swimming amenities as part of their ordinary lessons, those who want higher quality more in depth swimming training are invited to join the paid membership scheme at the club. The fee covers personal attention and focused stroke correction as well as options to swim at club level or participate in swimming galas up to national level. Leading Curro Aquatics are two highly experienced professionals. Mickey Olivier, the Head Coach at Curro Durbanville, brings five years of coaching experience and over 15 years as a competitive swimmer. With an Honours degree in Economics and a qualification as a SSA swimming coach, Mickey has played a significant role in coaching medal winners at Junior and Senior National levels, as well as swimmers representing South Africa.

Her extensive experience as a former South African Triathlon and Olympic qualifier will be instrumental in driving the success of Curro Aquatics.
Making up the coaching complement is Marne Meier and Wendy Louw, who teach young children to be water safe, develop a love of swimming, and master the basic swimming strokes while having fun. Junior swim coach Kristen Straszacker is also involved and runs the masters swimming program at Curro Durbanville.

We have always been dedicated to catering to swimmers from junior to senior levels and even offer a master’s swimming club for experienced swimmers who can compete under the Curro banner. Curro Aquatics is registered with Cape Town Aquatics and Swimming South Africa, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations,” adds Riaan Stroebel, Executive Head at Curro Durbanville.
