A heartwarming event took place on the evening of February 27, 2025, at Grantleigh Schools’ Preschool,
where young learners gathered for the annual Pyjama Picnic & Storytelling Evening at Loerie’s Nest. This special night was an enchanting celebration of stories, dreams, and the joy of reading, where children were invited to come dressed in their favourite pyjamas for an unforgettable journey through the pages of books.
The evening kicked off with a cozy picnic, where children snuggled in blankets and enjoyed a delightful
array of treats. They were then transported into a world of wonder as captivating storytellers brought
enchanting tales to life. The magical event not only brought joy but also highlighted the vital importance
of cultivating a love for reading in children.
Reading aloud to children before bed is more than just a cherished tradition. It is a practice that significantly boosts language skills, enriches vocabulary, and fosters imagination. According to experts, bedtime stories provide children with a safe, relaxing environment that promotes a sense of security, making it easier for them to wind down and transition into a restful night’s sleep.
Beyond these cognitive benefits, reading together at bedtime strengthens the bond between parent and child. It is a shared moment of connection that encourages communication and emotional support. Studies also show that children who are read to regularly tend to develop a lifelong love of books and learning.
The Pyjama Picnic & Storytelling Evening was not only a fun event but also a beautiful reminder of the
power of reading and the lasting impact it has on a child’s development. As we look forward to more such events at Loerie’s Nest, we hope that this tradition continues to inspire the next generation to discover the magic of stories—both before bed and in every part of their daily lives.
