Brons vir Die Hoërskool Brandwag karateka

Ethan Bothma, ‘n graad-10 leerder van die Hoërskool Brandwag in Kariega, het Vrydag tot Sondag, 22 tot 24 Maart 2024 aan die WUKF South Africa National Championship & Afro-Asia Open wat ‘n “All Styles” kompetisie is, deelgeneem by “Boardwalk Conference Centre”. Hulle was 31 deelnemers in hulle ouderdomsdivisie en dit was ‘n baie moeilike kompetisie. Lande soos Skotland, Amerika, Frankryk en Namibië het kom deelneem teen Suid-Afrika. In totaal was daar 700 atlete wat deelgeneem het en 1 850 kategorie inskrywings.

Ethan het 3de plek behaal met hulle Unison Kata en ‘n brons medalje gewen in die 18 jaar en ouer divisie terwyl hy maar 15 jaar is. President Cyril Ramaphosa se teenwoordigheid by die geleentheid was ‘n groot eer en voorreg vir al die deelnemers en toeskouers wat een van die grootste karate kompetisies in Suid-Afrika is. Hierdie prestasie wys op die harde werk, toewyding en talent van Ethan as ‘n deelnemer in die WUKF kompetisie. Die teenwoordigheid van die President by so ‘n geleentheid onderstreep die belangrikheid van sport en die uitblink daarin. Dit kan ‘n positiewe impak hê op die sportgemeenskap en die aanmoediging gee aan die jong atlete om te bly strewe na hulle drome. Ons wens Ethan Bothma hartlik geluk met sy brons medalje en hoop dat hierdie prestasie hom nog verder inspireer om sy passie vir karate voort te sit. Dit is ‘n trots vir sy skool, afrigter, familie en die gemeenskap!
