329 Athletes Conquer Inter Schools Cross Country League Race at Camps Bay High School

The scenic surroundings of Camps Bay High School played host to last week’s Inter Schools Cross Country League Race, drawing 329 athletes from across the Cape Peninsula. The challenging course, winding through The Glen Forest, proved to be a true test of endurance for the participants.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Camps Bay High School’s Head of Sport, Ms. Busi Ngcwama, and Head of Cross Country, Ms. Juliah Mabaya, for their dedication in organising this successful event. Special recognition is also extended to Camps Bay High School parents, Paul and Tanya Goddard for their invaluable support. Paul Goddard played a pivotal role in the event’s success. He meticulously ensured the course was safe and clear of branches for all runners, dedicating hours to removing obstacles such as branches and ensuring the path was clear.

Here are the final results from the race:

8km Boys U19:

  • 1st: N. Oscroft – SACS
  • 2nd: Bernard Lombaard – Rondebosch Boys
  • 3rd: Leon Lubemba – Voortrekker
  • Camps Bay High School’s Akho Mayapi secured 4th place and Zaccai Kritzinger finished 14th.

6km Girls U19:

  • 1st: Abigail Bester – Reddam Constantia
  • 2nd: Isabella Tooley – Herschel
  • 3rd: Lena Wiroth – Reddam Atlantic

6km Boys U17:

  • 1st: R. Scott – Rondebosch Boys
  • 2nd: Grant Hacking – American International School
  • 3rd: Luke Henderson – Westerford

6km Girls U17:

  • 1st: Scarlett van der Merwe – Jan van Riebeeck
  • 2nd: Chanel Du Plessis – St. Cyprians
  • 3rd: Kasia Liebenberg – Westerford

6km Boys U16:

  • 1st: Christian Maier – SACS
  • 2nd: D. Powell – SACS
  • 3rd: James Osmond – Fish Hoek

4km Girls U16:

  • 1st: Eva Herbertson – St. Cyprians
  • 2nd: Abygael Kew – Westerford
  • 3rd: Jessica Smith – Reddam Constantia

4km Boys U15:

  • 1st: Jonty Mertens – Reddam House Constantia
  • 2nd: George Nuttall – Rondebosch Boys
  • 3rd: C. Chitonge – SACS

4km Girls U15:

  • 1st: Teagan Hudson – Fish Hoek
  • 2nd: Isabella Herbertson – St. Cyprians
  • 3rd: Isabella Blaser – American International School

4km Boys U14:

  • 1st: Adam Hodgson – Milnerton
  • 2nd: Caleb Hunter – Fish Hoek
  • 3rd: Eshaan Banoo – Fish Hoek
  • Camps Bay High School’s Blake van Wyk finished in 13th place.

4km Girls U14:

  • 1st: E. Gardner – Rustenburg
  • 2nd: Amy Gold – Springfield Convent
  • 3rd: Anna Chernyk – Camps Bay

In addition to Camps Bay High School’s Anna Chernyk’s great podium finish, Sophia Goddard, despite injury showed resilience, finishing in 17th place.
