We look back on our winter sport season for 2022 and share Wynberg Boys’ Junior School’s  first teams.

Rugby

The curtain has come down on a really successful rugby season for the Wynberg Boys’ Junior School U13A side, who won over 65% of their games throughout 2022. The highlights of their season included victories against Paarl Boys’, home and away wins against Bishops and a big home triumph against Rondebosch Prep. The side grew from strength to strength as the season progressed, and a great team spirit was created amongst the boys by a coaching team consisting of Allen Gerber (Head of Sport) and UCT Ikeys, William Rose & Luthando Woji.

Hockey

U13A hockey grew from strength to strength this season. After a slow start, our team consistently started producing some excellent results with one of the highlights being our victory over Paarl Boys’ Junior school and another our tour to King Edward VII Preparatory School in Gauteng. On tour we were exposed to two formats of the game, 5’s hockey and 11 a- side and matches played in both formats produced excellent results by our team and a few “Man of the Match” nominations.  A definite highlight was beating Grey Bloem 2-1! This season we also had two boys’ selected to represent Western Province U13 A and C teams respectively. The cherry on top was our team being selected as one of the top 3 hockey schools in the southern suburbs and we will be representing our school in the WP Top School’s Hockey Tournament on Friday, 16 September where we will be defending our title which was won in 2019.  We wish our team and coaching staff, Mrs. Carmen Bradford and Mr. Jethro Johnston all the best with the tournament!

Squash

The U13 top 8 had a very successful season, remaining undefeated throughout. This included playing against the top boys schools. The highlights include 2 players representing Western Province Youth Squash. The Top 8 upheld the school motto and represented the school with pride.
