Wynberg Boys’ High School Matric Prize Giving ceremony

The Wynberg Boys’ High School Matric Prize Giving ceremony, took place on Thursday 20 October 2022 it were held as part of the Valedictory Service.

  • Wynberg Boys’ Acting Association: Abbott Cup presented to the best run Society for 2022 – received by Jason Faure, outgoing society chair.
  • Tristan Munz: Baxter Cup – best supporting actor, for his role in Little Shop of Horrors. The Friedlander Memorial Award for diligence and service to the school.
  • Anthony van Eyssen: Jubber Cup for outstanding contribution to the Cultural Pillar.
  • Jeane Louw & Tristan Gerard: Nicola Jordan Trophy for outstanding service to the Cultural Pillar.
  • Marco Palvie: Epworth Music Society Prize – for service to Music.
  • Declin Lesch: Jan de Waal Trophy as the most outstanding final year Engineering student.
  • Farhaan Brey: PriceWaterhouseCooper Award for Accounting and Mathematics.
  • Linga Chigona: Mark Schäffer Trophy for multilingualism. The Wade Bertram Cup awarded to the Grade 12 pupil who has enhanced the School’s name and spirit.
  • Cullan Larkin, Cole Arendse, and Rueben Semple shared the Bob Adshade Memorial Trophy for the best Art Portfolio of the year.
  • Abdul Malik Adams: Labia History Prize for the best History project based on original research.
  • Thomas Salter: The Stephen Doidge Business Award for aptitude and academic excellence in the field of commerce.
  • Yaqub Adams: The Caxton Prize for Outstanding Effort.
  • Tristan Gerard: The Old Boys’ Award and the Martin Cleveland Trophy awarded to the Top Academic student (Dux) in Grade 12.
  • Imraan Haron: The Azriel Fine Bursary for tertiary studies.
  • Fayyaaz Harnekar: The Thorp/Rankin Award for all-round excellence.
  • Zachary Porthen: Life Membership of the Wynberg Old Boys’ Union – awarded annually to the Head Prefect by WBHS. The Abelsohn Cup awarded to the Grade 12 pupil who has done the most for the school during his matric year. The Andrew Feinstein Cup awarded to the best all-rounder in Grade 12 (Academic, Sport, Cultural, Service). The Casper Cup for sportsman of the year.
  • Zachary Porthen & Juan James: The Old Boys’ Award for the best sporting achievement of the year – shared.
  • Jason Beckman: Rotary Good Fellowship Award to the pupil who has displayed outstanding ability during the year in promoting healthy goodwill and fair play among his fellows
  • Sven Borgström: The Wynberg Old Girls’ Cup and the Bunty Joubert Award for community service.
  • Daniel Fortune: The David Heidmann Prize for courage and determination in the face of great adversity.
  • Ron Thomas: The Wiegman Cup awarded to the most outstanding Silver Badge Prefect.
  • The UCT Maths Competition & the 1st XV Rugby Teams: Honours Award to the pupil or pupils for outstanding performances bringing honour to the school. Accepted by Luke van Zyl (Mathematics) and Asa’ad Moos (1st XV captain).
  • Mr Norris’ Sunninghill Tutor Group: The Neville Blackbeard Cup for the tutor group showing the most spirit.
  • McNaughton House: The Friedlander Shield awarded annually to the winning house. Accepted by Asa’ad Moos, House Prefect, and Yaqub Adams, House Captain.
