Worcester Gymnasium learner Rushaan Abdol has been actively involved as a Child Advisor in the Commissioner’s office. She was selected to present the Child Government Monitors’ submission – Respect for Children’s views: Little voices MUST count – to the United Nations Committee of the Rights of the Child in Geneva, Switzerland from 23 – 29 September. This is a special opportunity to lobby the Committee of the Rights of the Child, who holds the South African Government accountable for the progress of child rights in South Africa every 5 years. The Commissioner for Children is an independent institution and reports to Provincial Parliament on activities, functions, and progress on objectives.
