Waterfall College celebrates the achievement of their young investors, who finished in the top five of the national JSE Investment Challenge 2022 in the Speculator Portfolio. The challenge attracted over 24 000 participants this year and aims to teach high school learners about the world of investing by enabling them to manage simulated trades in real time. On Friday, 21 October, eight students from Waterfall College travelled to Joburg with Ms Jayne Cansfield to attend the Awards Ceremony.

Waterfall College, 2nd place Speculator Portfolio – Everest Investments

Everest Investments (made up of James Harris, Alex Kaiser, Zibusiso Bulose and Luyanda Makhoba – all in Grade 9) came second in the Speculator Portfolio and MTLB Investments (made up of Michaela von Maltitz, Tyler-Le
Hawkins, Londani Tshuma and Bubele Bulose – all in Grade 8) came fourth. Waterfall College was the only school from KwaZulu-Natal to make it through to the finals. “The fact that I was in the JSE, the centre of South Africa’s economy and the biggest stock exchange market in Africa, was mind-blowing,” said Grade 8 student Londani Tshuma. “I was also very proud of myself and my team, being the youngest there among Grade 11s and
12s, and coming fourth in the hardest section of the competition.

This year’s challenge attracted over 24 000 participants, including 20 000 high school students and 4 000 university students. Ms Cansfield has run the JSE Investment Challenge at the school for a number of years and is thrilled with the way the students have responded. Congratulations to you all.
