Local Majorettes Achieve National Recognition at SAMCA Trials. Four talented majorettes from The High School for Girls Potchefstroom have achieved outstanding success at the recent SAMCA trials, held on 31 January and 1 February.
The trials, organised by the South African Majorettes and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA), brought together 187 athletes from across the country. Over the course of two demanding days, participants were rigorously assessed, with only those achieving a score of 75% or higher qualifying for SAMCA Colours — a prestigious honour recognising national-level excellence in the sport. In an exceptional achievement, all four girls who represented the school were awarded their SAMCA Colours. The successful athletes are:

- Nkateko Shibambo
- Vinash-Leigh Noko
- Ontselerona Oageng
- Lesedi Moeketsi
Adding to this remarkable accomplishment, two of the school’s majorettes have been selected to represent South Africa on the international stage.
Kyla Mthethwa has been chosen for the 2026 national team and will travel to Poland to compete at the World Championships in September. Lesedi Moeketsi, who already earned her SAMCA Colours, has been selected for the 2027 national team and will also represent South Africa at the World Championships next year.
These achievements highlight the dedication, discipline, and talent of the school’s majorette squad, as well as the strength of the programme. The school community extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the athletes. Their success is a source of immense pride and inspiration.
