Paul Roos Gymnasium learners took part in the Filmit Festival 2022. They submitted one documentary (Awé: an insight into language in SA) and one short film (Hit & Mis). A panel of 22 industry professionals served as judges in the 2022 film competition for high school learners. Paul Roos Gymnasium was nominated in categories Best Documentary, Best Ensemble and Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

It is in the acting categories that Paul Roos Gymnasium excelled. Young actors Ian Lubbe, Jordan Cridland, Reuben de Wit, Altus van Heerden and Nelis Venter walked away with the “Best Ensemble” award for their acting in the short film ‘Hit & Mis’. They won a ClemenGold cash prize of R1000 and an acting coaching session with stage and film actor Stian Bam. Joshua Cridland walked away with an award for ‘Best Actor in a Supporting Role’. He also won a ClemenGold cash prize of R1000, a coaching session with actor Deon Lotz and a cameo appearance alongside 3 other winning actors in a special episode on soap opera Suidooster.

The Filmit Festival is a Paul Roos Gymnasium initiative – aimed at career and skills development within the digital sphere, creating experiential learning opportunities for creative learners from Southern Africa, and creating a platform for authentic African stories to be told and shared.  The Filmit Festival ran for the second consecutive year with partners Suidooster and ClemenGold. At the awards ceremony on 4 November, the Filmit Festival announced a brand new and exciting partnership with the popular Cape Town arts festival – Suidoosterfees. Paul Roos Gymnasium is excited about the added value this partnership offers its participants. For more info on Filmit visit  www.paulroos.co.za/filmit.
