The curtains rose, the lights dimmed, and our incredible learners took centre stage! This May, Paarl School in Brackenfell for learners with disabilities once again proudly participated in the annual Shakespeare Schools Festival South Africa (SSFSA).

Held at Cape Town’s prestigious Baxter Theatre, this global festival gives young performers the chance to bring timeless classics to life on a professional stage.

Our talented troupe of 21 learners absolutely captivated the audience with a brilliant, fast-paced, 20-minute adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice.

Condensing a massive Shakespearean drama into a bite-sized, 20-minute masterpiece is no small feat, but our learners handled it with absolute grace, passion, and flair. From the dramatic tension to the complex dialogue, every single performer brought their A-game, proving that talent knows no bounds.

“Seeing our learners step onto such a renowned stage with confidence and passion was an absolute highlight of the school year. They didn’t just perform; they truly owned the spotlight.”
