AWSUM had a chat with Matthew Kingston, first team hockey captain of Grey High School. We asked him about their season and what his expectations are for the game against Selborne College. Read the special edition newspaper for the Selborne College vs Grey High School derby here.
What is the highlight of your team’s hockey season this year? Beating Paarl Gim after losing the first time in the Hibbert Shield and then beating them the second time.
How do you motivate your team? We name the positive outcomes and remind the players of all the work and efforts we have been through to come this far.
Who is your vice-captain and how does he support you? Xander Elkington, when I am extremely tired, he helps me to motivate the boys.
Are you happy with your team’s line-up for the weekend? Do you have any injuries in your team? Yes, I am very happy, I believe in every single one of the team members and back them all the way.
What do you as a team want to achieve this year? What will make you proud? Our goal towards the back of the season is too firstly win the rest of our matches and our goal is to reach 100 goals that we are very close to.
What are your plans for the future? I want to attend a university that strives in hockey and continue playing hockey throughout my future.
