On Saturday, 27 August 2022, our first netball team took part in a regional netball tournament, SPARKZNSCHOOLGIRLFAST5, hosted by FERRUM and sponsored by SPAR. Eight schools took part – Pionier, DHS, Ferrum, Newcastle High, Amajuba High, Amajuba District, Sarel Cilliers and St Dominic’s. Each school played a total of 7 games – a win was 3 points and a draw was 1 point.

Pionier won all 7 games resulting in a total of 21 points. DHS won 6 and lost against Pionier, securing a spot in semi’s and second place with a total of 18 points. Newcastle High and Ferrum also made it into semi-finals.

DHS beat Ferrum in the semi’s and Pionier beat Ferrum in the semi’s. DHS got a second chance to go up against Pionier and they managed to win the game 10 – 7. It was a tough and very exciting game to watch. DHS brought home the floating trophy, making coaches, managers and the DHS family very proud. It was also such a nice way to end the season for our amazing senior players – Zinita Oosthuizen and Amanda Mazibuko.
