In the St Charles College foundation classrooms, learning sometimes looks a lot like play, and that’s exactly the point! One of our boys’ favourite activities is working with Six Bricks, a colourful hands-on learning resource that turns ordinary lessons into exciting challenges. Armed with just six LEGO DUPLO bricks, the boys are asked to listen carefully, focus their attention and apply a range of skills to complete a task. From copying patterns, to building models and solving problems, every challenge aims to keep busy hands and active minds engaged.

While the activity feels fun and playful, some serious learning is taking place. Six Bricks develops concentration, visual perception, spatial awareness, memory, fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities. As the boys follow instructions, sequence steps, verbalise and adjust their thinking, they are strengthening important executive functioning skills, which are all essential for reading, writing, and maths success.

Best of all, Six Bricks encourages perseverance and confidence. With just six small bricks, our classrooms are building big thinkers, one colourful challenge at a time.
