The Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (APAX) in Johannesburg hosted one of the largest school tournaments this month with the Association of Muslim Schools (AMS). The Annual Soccer Tournament kicked off on September the 16th through to Sunday the 18th. 24 schools and over 1000 learners participated in the event which took place at Marks Park, Johannesburg.

Durban teams ultimately dominated the competition, with Al Falaah College winning the Under 13 and Under 15 divisions and Hartley Road Primary School taking the Under 9 divisions, thus ensuring that 3 of the 5 trophies on offer were won by Durban teams.

The Director of Sports at Al Falaah College said: “An amazing effort from the boys and the sports team in a tough competition. We want to thank the sponsors, parents, management, and hosts for giving the children this wonderful opportunity to create beautiful memories which will last a lifetime, we’re so grateful to the APAX and the LOC for their wonderful hospitality and congratulate them for such a well run event. We might have come back with 2 major trophies, but we also can’t forget the other lads as well. The Under 9 team, for instance, was unbeaten until the semi-finals; the Under 11’s also just missed out on the semi’s; whilst the Under 17’s, I think, conceded just 3 goals all tournament. That just goes to show how tight the competition was.

In addition to the 2 trophies mentioned, Al Falaah College learners also received the Golden Boot award for the Under 9 and 11 divisions, the Golden Glove for the Under 13 divisions, the Most Valuable Player in the Under 15 divisions, the Golden Glove in the Under 15 divisions, and had 4 players on the AMS Under 15 Team of the Tournament.
