Wembley College Junior School teacher wins Duck Drop

Wembley College hosted its 25th Founders’ Day Duck Derby Celebrations this weekend at the school. The climax of the weekend is the Duck Drop on Saturday afternoon. The event originates from watching plastic, yellow ducks float down the Mooi River in Muden to see which duck crosses the finish line first. Unfortunately the proliferation of crocodiles on the river put an end to this version of “Pooh or rather duck sticks”.

Our plastic, yellow ducks then took to the skies in an aeroplane. They were thrown out of a plane and the winning duck landed closest to the circular, painted target on the sport fields at Wembley. Unfortunately a fierce wind began to blow on Saturday afternoon and the aeroplane flight was abandoned. First team players then hit the plastic, yellow ducks with racquets across the field to see who  could get closest to the painted, circular target on the top field.

One lucky duck landed on the target this year. The owner of this yellow, plastic duck is the Wembley Grade one teacher, Mrs Sonette Wolmarans. Mr Wolmarans is Head of IT in the High School. Their daughters Marisa and Leonie both attend Wembley College. Well done to this lucky family who truly deserve the winnings.
