The Grade 8 orientation program at Paul Roos Gymnasium was a resounding success

Spanning over four days, the Grade 8 orientation program at Paul Roos Gymnasium program focused on acclimating the Grade 8s to the school’s ethos, values, and traditions. On day 1 (16 January) the gr.8 students were welcomed by rector Mr. Andre van Staden and grade head Luan van der Vyver. The day included three sessions where the new students were treated with discussions regarding PRG’s values and traditions, the learning of the school anthem and an information session about the school’s vast sport and cultural activities.
During the second day the orientation continued with the discussing of Honour Codes, PRG Heir and other values. Gr12 leaders took the gr.8’s on a journey to the First Cross where a bible reading was conducted. Later that day the new students enjoyed their first official PRG sing-songs session.
On the third day the focus shifted to organizing the talent evening and practice, including a drumline demonstration and a session on social media etiquette by Ms. Martli Greyvenstein. The day continued with lessons on “Jolla Bollas” and their practice on the soccer field. Grade 8s also met their mentors and engaged in sing-songs with cheerleaders. During the fourth day the Grade 8’s participated in Interhouse activities, fostering a sense of unity among the students. The evening included a braai, a video presentation on proper conduct towards ladies, a talent evening with Bloemhof, and a thorough review of all Paul Roos’ information.
The orientation program concluded with Grade 8 students signing their names in the Paul Roos Book, receiving ties and year hats, and participating in their first “Jolla Bolla.” The Grade 8 orientation program at Paul Roos Gymnasium was a resounding success, blending academic, cultural, and social elements. The diverse activities fostered a sense of camaraderie and belonging among the new students, setting the stage for a positive and enriching academic journey at Paul Roos Gymnasium.
