A Grade 10 learner at Hudson Park High School developed a mobile phone application

Great Umejesi is a Grade 10 learner at Hudson Park High School. He has developed a mobile phone application, “Solution to Equal Access to Quality Shoes”. The app, when loaded onto mobile phones, connects donors of good quality pre-loved shoes with prospective recipients needing a particular size shoe. Great’s intention when creating the app, was to allow advantaged citizens to help those less fortunate – community enrichment.
He recently participated in a local science fair hosted by Eskom with his project and received a silver award for his entry. He also received the top award at the event – the Best Innovation award, which was a Rhodes University scholarship for his first year of studies, and he qualified to participate in the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair at Emperor’s Palace from 23-27 September. At the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair, his innovative project earned him a well-deserved bronze medal. His dedication and passion for making a positive impact in the community are truly inspiring.
