What can the school and parents expect from your teams this year at the SACS derby?

The boys will empty the tank for the last fixture of the season. They will give 100% passion and commitment to make them proud and hopefully play some outstanding rugby again.

Where is your strength as a 1st team?

We have very few weak areas in our team, all the players have contributed and bought into the game plan. Defensively we are very organised and don’t easily allow our opponents to score tries. Our attacking game has also developed this year and we have played some really good rugby with a good mix of back and forward play.

What is the most difficult part of coaching a school team?

Building a winning team culture where every player is given the space for personal growth within a singular sporting ethos. Doing this annually, and staying fresh, and providing opportunities and support beyond the fields and classrooms.

Why in your opinion, does school rugby get more competitive each year?

Rugby is generally perceived as the premier SA Boys’ School sport, and with that status there’s an ongoing rivalry between all schools across all leagues to lead the pack in the public eye for prestige and bragging rights.  With professional rugby a tempting and lucrative career option for talented players immediately after completing their schooling, and massive social and traditional media focus on success and achievement the game at school level was inevitably going to become a mirror of franchise competitions.
