Volksrust High School hosted an exhilarating day of winter sports on Saturday, 2 March, showcasing remarkable talent and fierce competition against Ferrum. While the matches were challenging, the spirit of sportsmanship prevailed throughout.

In rugby, standout performances were witnessed across various age groups. Yamkela Mlotshwa and Phumuza Mlambo distinguished themselves as the backline and forward players of the match for the U.15A team, respectively. Similarly, Lungelo Mthetwha and Thembelani Dube showcased their skills for the U.15B team. Nhlakanipho Ngutshane and Kwazi Radebe shone in the U.16 category, while Banele Shabalala and Khetho Thwala earned recognition in the 2nd and 1st teams, respectively.

On the netball court, Ingiphile Mkhwanazi stood out for the 1st team, with Sineliso Magubane making notable contributions to the 2nd team’s performance. The U.16 team secured a hard-fought victory with Oratile Thobejane earning the player of the game title. Anelisa Ndimande and Katlego Moloung showcased their skills in the U.15 and U.14 categories, respectively.

In hockey, Zesizwe Shangase and Bernoe Janse van Rensburg impressed for the U.14 girls’ and boys’ teams. Nokuthula Mdluli showcased exceptional talent for the U.15 girls’ team. Caitlyn Swiegers stood out as the player of the game for the victorious U.16 girls’ team, while Allen Sebothoma demonstrated his prowess for the U.16 boys’ team, which ended in a draw. Danel de Jager and Bernique Janse van Rensburg made significant contributions to the 2nd and 1st girls’ teams, respectively, while Mpilonhle Bhembe excelled for the 1st boys’ team.
