Reddam House Durbanville achieves four Top awards in the World

Durbanville, Cape Town – Reddam House Durbanville has delivered one of its strongest Cambridge International performances to date in the November 2025 examination series, achieving a total of 15 Cambridge awards, including an exceptional four Top in the World distinctions.

This marks the highest number of Top in the World awards in the school’s history and positions Reddam House Durbanville among the leading Cambridge schools in South Africa. The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards programme celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world.

Particularly notable is Reddam House Durbanville’s strength in Mathematics, with three students achieving 100% in the subject across IGCSE and AS Level, reinforcing the depth of academic excellence in this discipline.

Top in the World results set new benchmark

The four Top in the World awards were achieved by:

  • Sebastian Herbert – IGCSE Mathematics (100%)
  • Mia Ivan – AS Level Mathematics (100%) and AS Level Accounting
  • Karli Kennard – AS Level Mathematics (100%)

Mia Ivan also achieved First Place in South Africa for Best Across Four AS Level subjects, placing her among the top-performing Cambridge students nationally.

Exceptional performers lead the cohort

Among the exceptional achievers, Youkyum Kim secured Top in South Africa awards for A Level Mathematics and AS Level Computer Science. He has received an offer to study Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and is currently completing accelerated A Levels in Further Mathematics and Physics in preparation for his studies.

Mia Ivan’s excellent results have already translated into academic progression, with her currently pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch University, where she continues to excel.

Karli Kennard, who achieved a Top in the World award for AS Level Mathematics, is also studying at Stellenbosch University, where she is pursuing Actuarial Science.

Current Grade 12 students Lukholo Mgudlwa and Kai Mallela, both Top in South Africa award recipients, have applied to study Medicine at the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University. Sebastian Herbert, who achieved a Top in the World award for IGCSE Mathematics, is pursuing Actuarial Science, with applications submitted locally and the option to explore international study.

Reddam House Durbanville students also achieved multiple Top in South Africa awards across a broad range of subjects:

  • Youkyum Kim – A Level Mathematics and AS Level Computer Science
  • Lukholo Mgudlwa – IGCSE Biology and IGCSE Music (High Achievement Award)
  • Kai Mallela – IGCSE Physics
  • Boni Yan – IGCSE First Language English
  • Asmaa Thomas – IGCSE Business Studies
  • Kenah Seba – IGCSE Art and Design
  • Yafei Wang – AS Level Chinese Language (High Achievement Award)
  • Oliver Cloete – IGCSE Foreign Language Spanish (High Achievement Award)

These results reflect excellence across Mathematics, the sciences, commerce, languages and the creative arts, highlighting the breadth of the school’s academic offering.

A milestone year for academic excellence

Executive Head Barry Nieuwoudt says the results reflect both exceptional student performance and sustained teaching excellence.

Achieving our highest number of Top in the World awards, particularly with such outstanding results in Mathematics, speaks to the calibre of our students and the strength of our academic programme. We are equally proud of the breadth of achievement across so many subjects, which reflects our commitment to developing well-rounded, high-performing students prepared for success both locally and internationally.”
