Grantleigh School Grade 11 Natural Sciences learners recently swapped textbooks for an outdoor experiment that was as educational as it was delicious. In a practical investigation of the greenhouse effect and heat trapping, learners constructed and used a solar cooker – an innovative device that converts solar radiation into heat energy. The solar cooker was stocked with potatoes, carrots, 2-minute noodles, and even a cake mix early in the school day. By the final lesson, excitement built as students opened their solar oven to reveal the day’s work. The noodles and cake, in particular, were a surprising success – much to everyone’s delight!
