Wow, what a day! The field was once again painted with yellow, red, blue and black as the inter-house Athletics Day took place with the junior and senior school on Thursday. This event has not happened with the whole school together since 2019, so what a day it was! It was a beautiful hot day and tough conditions for some races however the boys did not disappoint. 7 records were broken and 1 record was matched. That is absolutely spectacular and that shows the standard of the athletes at Graeme College.

Some of the highlights from the two days include Josh Potts breaking the cricket ball record for the U8 age group and Esinako Jadi breaking the 3000m record for the U15 Age group in the pre- events. During the day Erin Stevens broke the 100m record for the U14 Age group, Tyler Bouwer broke the long jump record for U13, Inam Masoma matched the High Jump record for U13 and C-Jay Jeggels broke the record for the 1500m in the U13 Age group. The oldest record from 1950 was then broken during the relays as the U12 Hutton relay team dominated by a large margin to win in a time of 55.79 seconds. The U13 Hutton team then kept up to their name as they beat the U13
record. The House points for the day:

  • 1st place Hutton
  • 2nd place Wiles
  • 3rd place Neilson
  • 4th place Vernal

  • U14 Erin Stevens

  • U16 most outstanding athlete: Khanya Pieters

Most outstanding overall performance of the day: Esinako Jadi
Victor Ludorum: Licebo Ngwentle

Thank you to all the staff for all the preparation before the event and all the hard work on the day. Thank you to all the parents who came out to support their son and the school as a whole. A special well done and thank you to all the boys that took part in such a great day.

Inter-house is a major pastoral and extra-curricular side of school which develops students’ social, team-working and organisation (amongst other) skills. The House system aims to reflect the ethos of the school. Achieving, in its base level, is about winning; and many students get a sense of achievement when their team wins. We should encourage this but also support students who, for them, participating is an achievement. Improved confidence, a
great performance, even a single moment in an event can all be highlighted as success. Be supportive. There are many House events throughout the year from all areas of school life. This blend ensures that everyone has the
opportunity to represent their House in something that they enjoy or are good at.
