The prefects of Dundee High School left for their Prefect Camp in high spirits on the 15^th of January 2022.  Excitement was evident in their voices as they sang to various songs and caught up after the December holiday. After giving the buses a little rinse through Ladysmith, an alternate route and impatient teenagers, they made it to Drakensville safe and sound.

Upon arrival, the prefects were required to change and get ready for their first activity which was zip-lining over a body of water. The weather did not allow them to do more outdoor activities and they had to take shelter indoors.  First, they swam in the indoor pool and later, in a hall they were split into two groups. The prefects had to work as teams to complete a challenging task. The task at hand was to move crates with just a rope. What made the task challenging was the rules of the game which included not stepping into the square that the crates were on. After screaming, determination, and extensive team work, both teams were able to complete the challenge.

The 16^th of January began bright and early for the prefects. After a filling breakfast they were escorted to do archery which was a success and a great way to start the day. The weather was against them, yet again and they took part in various team building activities that focussed on developing listening skills and following instructions as well as developing trust within the group.

The last day, exhaustion was evident in the prefects’ eyes but they were determined to get the most out of their tour.  They had to complete an obstacle course and were divided into two groups once again.  They had to choose a team leader, a team name and a team spirit-building chant in 5 minutes.

Amongst the many lessons that the prefects learnt on the trip, the main lesson had to be that working together as a team is the best and the most effective way to keep the school at its greatest.  The trip created unity in the group and also assisted them with improving their already great leadership skills.
