Cannons Creek Independent High School held its inaugural Variety Concert on Thursday 26 June, which lit up the stage with an impressive display of talent and creativity. This event offered the platform for the best acts from various cultural events across the year to perform once more, and this time parents were invited also! This year’s event was centred around Mandela Day, starting with a powerful video showing the performance of Johnny Clegg where Madiba joined on stage for ‘Asimbonanga’, which set the tone for the evening, coupled with displays from the History Society and Photographic Society, and the Interact collection of Hygiene Boxes for Lerato’s Hope.
The evening was the perfect end to Term 2, featuring a wide array of performances from captivating vocalists, dance routines, poetry recitals to comedy acts. Highlights included the familiar fan-favourite performance from TJ Lee of ‘Gangnam Style’, a toe-tapping performance of ‘Asibe Happy’ by Okuhle Mdingi and Mbali Mbulawa, and the Matrics’ symbolic group performance of ‘We’re All in This Together’. The staff also shone on stage with Mrs Harvey and Mr Nuves accompanying pieces on the stage, the special performance of Mrs Ingram and her son Liam Ingram (Grade 10) singing ‘A Million Dreams’, and Mrs Andreas reciting ‘Madiba’ by Andre Boesak. A delightful surprise came in the form of the group item depicting the staff wishing they were at the sea, morphing into ‘Kaptein’, complete with Life Sciences Teacher Mr Currie and his canoe!
Grade 8 learner Taejung Lee got the audience enthused with his performance of ‘Gangnam Style’ by PSY.
Life Sciences Teacher Mr James Currie makes his stage appearance for ‘Kaptein’, armed with the appropriate attire and his canoe (carried by Grade 10 learner Daniel Arnold).
Kiara Puccini (Grade 9) performed a dance solo which was originally performed at the 2025 Cape Dance Festival.
