Equipping learners with essential school supplies sets the foundation for academic success. As part of a back-to-school initiative, over 1,000 Grade 1 and Grade 4 learners across six local primary schools in the Siyancuma Local Municipality received brand-new school bags and stationery packs, ensuring they have the tools needed to thrive in the classroom and build a brighter future. Now in its fourth year, this initiative, funded by Boikanyo Solar, continues to support education and uplift young learners in the community.

Established to restore confidence, the support helps learners to be able to focus on their studies without worrying about having the necessary resources, particularly those starting their schooling journey in Grade 1 and transitioning to more advanced learning in Grade 4.

“Education at the foundational and intermediate levels plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s future. Grade 1 marks the start of structured learning, where children develop essential literacy and numeracy skills, while Grade 4 represents a transition to more independent learning. Providing these learners with the necessary resources fosters engagement, creativity, and a love for learning,” said Lesego Mosiane, Social Performance Practitioner for Boikanyo Solar, which funds this programme as part of its Socio-Economic Development Strategy.

Additionally, the initiative stimulated two local black woman-owned SMMEs, which created temporary employment opportunities for two youths, further extending the impact beyond education into local economic empowerment.

“Thank you so much to Boikanyo Solar for making this difference in our schools and within our communities. This is truly impactful,” said Lichme Swartz, Principal of Bongani Primary School.

The beneficiary schools include: Bucklands Primary School, Ikageng Intermediate School, Vallus Primary School, Douglas Primary School, Bongani Primary School, and Vaal-Oranje Primary School.
