In a display of skill and determination, soccer players from Curro Academy Soshanguve in Pretoria have recently secured a resounding victory at the esteemed 2024 Shaka Easter Soccer Tournament, claiming the championship title in the fiercely contested under 17 division. The tournament, spanning from Saturday, 9 March to Sunday, 31 March 2024, showcased the team’s resilience and skill, with impressive victories over formidable opponents, including a decisive 2-0 win in the finals against reigning champion Rekaofela Academy.

Dr Fannie Sebolela, Executive Head at Curro Academy Soshanguve, expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating, “This victory is a testament to the hard work and determination of our players and teaching staff. Guided by the expertise of Coach Austen Baloyi, our team embarked on a rigorous three-year journey in preparation for this momentous tournament, and today, their persistence and diligence have yielded triumphant results”. As a non-profitable organisation, The Shaka Easter Soccer Tournament is held annually at Curro Academy Soshanguve and serves as a catalyst for community development and social cohesion, whilst reaffirming the private school group’s dedication to utilising sports as a force for positive transformation.

Looking ahead, the school remains unwavering in its pursuit of soccer greatness, with its sights firmly set on prestigious tournaments like the Key Motsepe Tournament, the premier school soccer competition in the country. The school remains steadfast in its commitment to shaping the athletes of tomorrow and fostering a lasting legacy of sporting brilliance.
