Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School athletes shine across multiple sporting codes

Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School is proud to share recent excellent sporting achievements from our girls,
with swimmers, hockey players, netballers, and volleyball teams representing the school at prestigious
tournaments across the country during the holidays. There were also standout individual performances in
both shooting and bowls. In addition, term 2 has seen some very good performances from our hockey and
netball teams.
Swimming: A Wave of Medals
PMB Girls’ High School swimmers delivered exceptional performances at the Durban championships during
the holidays:
● Talia Luridsamy (14) claimed four gold medals and three silver medals at Level 1, setting multiple
personal bests.
● Mayra Singh (14) secured two golds, two silvers, and a bronze at Level 2, including a standout
victory in the 100m butterfly.
● Kristen Burt (16) dominated Level 3 with three gold medals and a bronze in relay events.

● Cailyn Clowes (15) earned a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle.
● Zekhethelo Radebe (13) impressed with two golds and a silver, breaking personal records in
breaststroke events.
“Our swimmers continue to set the standard for excellence, combining talent with determination. These
results reflect the hard work put in both in and out of the pool.”
Hockey: Competing Against the Best
The school’s hockey teams faced tough competition at national festivals during the recent holidays:
● U14A Team secured a very good victory against Voortrekker Bethlehem (6–4).
● U16A Team recorded wins against Thomas More and Hillcrest, finishing 21st overall.
● 1st Team achieved three wins, including against Clarendon High and Penryn, placing 24th out of 32
teams.
Over the past weekend the hockey teams delivered a string of impressive results:
● Against Howick High School GHS secured victories across all age groups, including a commanding
3–1 win by the 1st Team
