The GDE selected Benoni High School athlete Brooklyn Alberts (grade 9) as part of their Gauteng
delegation that participated in the Tricolour games in Reggio Emilia in Italy. This was the 7th edition
of the Giochi del Tricolore (Tricolour Games) and was hosted between 24 and 30 July 2023.
The young athletes that participated in the international games were given an opportunity to
celebrate the Bicentenary of the Italian Tricolour flag that was also born in Reggio Emilia.
Brooklyn was selected because of her fantastic performance during the start of the 2023 athletics
season. She placed 2nd in Gauteng in the 100m sprints, and then moved on to the SA Champs
where she placed 8th.
At the Tricolour games she represented Benoni High School, Gauteng, and South Africa with pride.
Brooklyn achieved the following at the Giochi del Tricolore: 5th position in the 200m sprints; a
podium position of 3rd in the 100m and her relay team took 1st place and returned to Benoni High
with 2 medals.
