Stanford Lake College Grade 11 learner Ilne Kotze competed this weekend in the EXP Adventure Race 120km as part of a mixed team. Teams navigated mountainous trails on foot, cycled over 45km on mountain bikes, and paddled 15km in the darkness on kayaks — all self-navigated with a map and compass.
Ilne’s team, Wild Explorers, finished 2nd, completing the course in an incredible 26 hours straight through the night with no sleep. A huge achievement for a Grade 11 student, showcasing extreme self-discipline, determination, and endurance. Her ambitious goal: to complete 1000km of adventure racing before matriculating. Definitely an athlete to watch!
