The curtains have fallen on Curro Durbanville’s MADD Week, a spectacular fusion of arts, creativity, and boundless talent that electrified both primary and high school campuses. From Monday, 23 to Friday 27 October 2023, learners, teachers, family, and friends converged to unleash their creative spirits, forging an indelible and unforgettable artistic experience.

MADD Week is an annual extravaganza at the school, celebrating the intersection of music, art, dance, and drama. This year, both the primary school and high school campuses came together to host an array of events across these disciplines that captivated the hearts of all who attended.

“Curro Durbanville’s MADD Week is a testament to the incredible talent and creativity that our learners possess. It’s a week where we put down our pens and textbooks, and instead come together to appreciate the arts and showcase the exceptional abilities of our learners. This year’s event marked a significant highlight during Curro’s 25th anniversary celebrations and the Culture Departments of both schools must be commended for their hard work and dedication. A huge congratulations to all learners who participated. A High School Artistic Odyssey

The High School segment of MADD Week began with a burst of creativity in the school’s Atrium, where learners had the chance to create personal artwork. The school’s drama club performed their captivating one-act play, ‘Exit Stage Left’ and learners from the dance club wowed audiences with a diverse range of dance numbers, from tap to hip hop. For the first time, parents were invited to a “Paint and Sip” event, providing an opportunity to unleash their artistic sides too.

On the primary school front, the drama club kicked off the week with their enthralling production, ‘Wonderland’, while art enthusiasts had the opportunity to admire the incredible works produced by learners during the music and drama concerts. The Prestige Music Concert was a joint effort between the music departments of both schools, transporting the audience to an intimate concert encompassing musical performances ranging from classical to rock, pop, and jazz.

MADD Week reached its grand finale with learners and staff across both campuses dressing up as their favourite book, series, or movie characters. The week wrapped up with ‘Curro’s Got Talent,’ which showcased the remarkable skills of all learners. Grade 3 learner, Casey McEwan took home the top prize for the primary school, whilst the dance club earned the coveted first spot for the high school. Grace Lynch (Grade 8) was the audience choice winner, whilst the overall winner across both campuses was Mia-Cecilia Kriel (Grade 8) of the high school.
